Quebec's Best Spring Black Bear Hunting - Ten Mile Bear at Ten Mile Lodge

Ten Mile Bear Spring Bear Hunts :

Ten Mile Lodge can legally begin baiting on May 1st. The Quebec Spring bear season opens May 15th.

Ten Mile Bear hunts begin the first week of June and run until the season closes later in the month. This gives the Spring bears plenty of time to get out of hibernation and moving about. We like to accommodate 4-6 hunters in camp each week for our Spring Bear hunts.

Earlier in the month the bears begin hitting the baits more and more often as their digestive systems get back on track. Many bears will focus on grasses to help with their digestion after emerging from hibernation. Our meadows and numerious boggs help with this. Bears will visit baits throughout the year, but in May and June food sources are not abundant and the berry crops are weeks away from maturity.

Later in June the boars are roaming and looking for receptive sows.

Spring Black Bear Hunting:

Shot opportunity at Ten Mile Lodge over the last 3 years has been 95%.

Archery bear hunting is done from Treestands with most stands being 2-man styled ladder stands.

Some crossbow bear hunts are conducted from elevated platforms with roofs often used for Moose hunting.

Ten Mile Bear Spring Bear Baiting:

Here at Ten Mile Lodge we bait consistently each year and maintain bait locations that are active every year.

Ten Mile Lodge bait consists of a variety of items. Both meat and fish scraps, carcasses and sweets that the bears crave!

Many Ten Mile baits and stands are situated by meadows that provide the grasses bear seek once out of hibernation to help get their digestive system back on track. This allows a lot of bears to be viewed naturally as well before they come into the bait site.

The meat and fish scraps produce the smell to bring the bears in, while the sweets keep them coming back for more.

Bear Bait

The best situation is to let any Ten Mile bear work into the bait site. The hunter should be patient and let the bear present a good shot.

Some bears will approach a bait site and some times leave, only to return a short time later. Most bears will return multiples times. Bigger bears will often hold back and run smaller bears off the baits.
